THE CLIMATE IS CHANGING, SO WHY ISN'T THE CURRICULUM?
CHALLENGE YOUR INSTITUTION TO ACT ON THE CLIMATE CRISIS NOW
Welcome to ACAN’s student arm:
StuCAN is a continuation of ACAN’s Climate Curriculum Campaign: seeking to increase climate literacy at all levels of higher education in the built environment
THE STUDENTS CLIMATE ACTION NETWORK
StuCAN has three
overarching aims:
One
INCREASE STUDENT AGENCY
We will support student groups to enable wider discussion of the climate and ecological crises with educators and regulatory bodies.
Two
UNITE STUDENT VOICES
We will connect students of the built environment and create a platform to lobby for change.
Three
CULTURAL TRANSFORMATION
We seek to embed ACAN’s core aims into the curriculum; establishing future generations of climate literate built environment professionals.

Why?
Respondents to our Student Survey felt they were ill-equipped to mitigate the effects of the climate emergency in their future work, and the majority were unaware of a climate action group within their institution.
With insufficient preparation for future work, inadequate tutor responses and nowhere to voice their concern, students are fundamentally being let down. This has to change.
We have been campaigning to increase the number of student climate action groups in built environment faculties across the country, supporting student cohorts in schools of the built environment. In September 2019, there were 6 groups of this kind. There are now 14 student action groups across the UK, and that number is growing fast.
Through collective action students can discover the true power of their agency; giving them the confidence to challenge climate negligent teaching when they see it. By connecting student-led action groups, informed educators and practitioners, we can begin a cultural transformation.
